Dehua Ceramics
Every semester, the College of Chinese International Education/Overseas Education College of Xiamen University organizes international students and graduate student leaders from the college's Pioneer League to conduct an immersive study tour focused on ceramic culture in Dehua, Quanzhou, known as the "World Ceramics Capital."
Dehua Ceramics Museum

Here, the participants systematically visited exhibits ranging from stamped pattern pottery from the Neolithic Age, to export porcelain sold overseas along the "Maritime Silk Road" during the Song and Yuan dynasties, and further to treasured ceramic art pieces by masters such as He Chaozong, whose works from the Ming and Qing dynasties are renowned representatives of "Blanc de Chine" (Chinese White). Each exhibit, warm and smooth like jade with perfect form and spirit, captivated students from diverse cultural backgrounds, prompting them to pause and admire.
Ceramics Art Classroom at Dehua No.1 High School

At Dehua No.1 High School, the participants experienced the process of creating ceramics, transforming clay into finished objects. Starting with the most basic step of kneading clay, they gradually learned core techniques such as throwing, molding, and painting. In this "hands-on" activity that transcended language and culture, the students not only created unique ceramic pieces but also gained a deep appreciation for the spirit of the "artisan."

Taipinggong Kiln Site

The Taipinggong Kiln Site was once an important kiln for producing high-quality ceramics during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it still preserves the production remains of ancient kiln clusters relatively intact. Walking among the dragon kiln remains, built along the mountain slope and stretching tens of meters, the participants carefully observed the structure and layout of the traditional dragon kilns, experiencing firsthand the grand scale of ancient kiln production. At the site, an intangible cultural heritage inheritor provided a detailed introduction to the complete process chain, from clay refining and hand-throwing to kiln loading and temperature control. Chinese and international students were deeply impressed, capturing this on-site classroom spanning time with their cameras.
Ceramics Art City

As one of the largest specialized ceramics markets in China, Dehua Ceramics Art City brings together thousands of ceramic enterprises, master studios, and brand showrooms. In the various exhibition areas of the Ceramics Art City, the students witnessed the modern transformation and innovative expression of Dehua ceramics. The traditional "Blanc de Chine" technique is skillfully applied to modern daily-use items and cultural and creative products such as tea sets, tableware, and incense utensils. From antique-style works with classic elegance to avant-garde and trendy modern designs, the inheritance and innovation, persistence and breakthroughs of the Dehua ceramics industry are vividly displayed here.
