Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street(中山路步行街):

As the heart of Xiamen's commercial area, Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street covers a total area of 1 million square meters, accounting for nearly one third of Xiamen's total business area. It is a beautiful and prosperous commercial corridor lined with serried rows of stores and bustling with crowds.
Founded in 1925, Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street was renamed "Dahan Road" during the Japanese puppet regime period, and changed to "Dongfanghong Road" in 1966, before reverting to Xiamen Zhongshan Road in October 1979. It has been a prosperous commercial street since 1959. In 2004, the west section of Zhongshan Road was designated as a pedestrian area with motor vehicles banned, leading to a sharp increase in pedestrian flow. Today, it remains one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs.
The pedestrian street is 1,198 meters long and 15 meters wide. Most of the buildings along the street were constructed by returned overseas Chinese in the 1920s. Influenced by the architectural style of Nanyang (Southern Ocean), most buildings are of British style, with a few in French and German styles. Walking along the street, you can not only feel the vitality of the market economy, but also experience the rich cultural atmosphere of the city. The Arcades (Qilou) Street of Zhongshan Road is a representative of Xiamen's architectural culture. "Arcades Street" refers to the walkways under the buildings, which are mainly pink and ivory white and feature a strong exotic Nanyang style.
All merchants along the street abide by business ethics, operate in a civilized manner and provide convenient and preferential services for citizens and tourists. Many shops have been awarded Civilized Operation Units or Trustworthy Enterprises at the district, municipal and provincial levels. The construction of a "Civilized Model Street" and "Fake-Free Shops" has created a sound business and consumption environment for the street.
You can take Bus No.759 or the weekend student special bus to the terminal, then transfer to a bus heading towards Zhongshan Road. Alternatively, taking Metro Line 1 to Zhenhai Road Station provides convenient access to the pedestrian street.
