A grand library will finish being constructed on April 6 at the Xiang’an Campus of Xiamen University in Fujian province.

The new library has an area of 73,000 square meters, the biggest nationwide. There will be over 3,000 seats in the library with over 2.5 million books.

It will be divided into four parts: the Xiang’an branch, a medical branch, a multimedia branch, and a reserve branch.

The first floor will be a general reserve of books in the library, including 1 million books, 200,000 periodicals, and 100,000 newspapers.

On the second floor, there will be two auditoriums; one can host 600 people while the other can host 300. A multimedia area, an audio and training area and a study sharing area will also be found on the second floor.

The third and fourth floors will be a general books reading area while the fifth floor and above will be books of specific disciplines, such as medical studies.

According to the university, the library was established to mark the 93rd anniversary of Xiamen University. The university will host a series of celebration activities such as inviting people to give lectures on campus.
