On 16 May, 2014, work started on the construction of Xiamen University, Malaysia. The cornerstone-laying ceremony will be held in July, xmnn.cn reported.

Located in Kuala Lumpur, Xiamen University, Malaysia, covers an area of 0.09 square kilometers. It is expected to start enrolling students in September, 2015.

Zhu Chongshi, president of Xiamen University, released the news at a joint conference of Xiamen University’s alumni association.

Xiamen has a deep historical relationship with Malaysia. Tan Kah Kee, the founder of Xiamen University, once worked and lived in Malaysia and financially supported Xiamen University with the money he earned in Malaysia. So Xiamen University has now set up an overseas campus in Malaysia to reciprocate the kindness shown by Malaysia.
