The 2015 Xiamen International Marathon is scheduled to be held on January 3rd, and the starting point will be relocated to WuTong Lighthouse Park due to the fourth phase of construction of the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center.
The Xiamen WuTong Lighthouse Park is located in the coastal area of the Huandao road. Standing more than 70 meters in height, the Wutong Lighthouse has become the landmark building in eastern Xiamen.
According to the Xiamen International Marathon organizing committee, the upcoming 13th Xiamen International Marathon will only have two competition options on January 3rd, the full marathon and the half marathon.
The First Cross-strait (Xiamen) Women's half-marathon has already been held on November 1st in Haicang district. Two of the main competition options for previous Xiamen International Marathons, the 10km & 5km races, will be held on December 13th along Haicang Avenue in Haicang District.
Despite the change in the starting point, the main route for the 13th Xiamen International Marathon is still along Huandao Road, as follows:
Full-Marathon: Xiamen WuTong Lighthouse Park → Huandao Dong Road → North Huizhan Road → Huizhan Road → South Huizhan Road→South Huandao Road → South Yunding Road → South Huandao Road → Baicheng Bridge near Xiamen University (turnaround point)→ South Huandao Road → South Huizhan Road → Huizhan Road →North Huizhan Road → East Huandao Road →main entrance of the Xiangshan International Yacht Club→ Eastern Huandao Road→Xiamen WuTong Lighthouse Park (Finish)
Half-Marathon: Xiamen WuTong Lighthouse Park (Start)→ Huandao Dong Road → North Huizhan Road → Huizhan Road → South Huizhan Road→South Huandao Road → South Yunding Road → South Huandao Road →Longhushan Road(The Little Egret Art and Culture Center, Finish)
Although the 10km and 5km races are to be held earlier in December this year, the 13th Xiamen International Marathon is still expected to attract 45,000 runners on the main race day. The organizing committee plans to invite 30 high-level athletes from over 5 countries to break the male and female course records, which are 2:07:32 and 2:21:36, respectively.
The Roller Skating 10KM Race and Wheelchair Half Marathon will be cancelled next year. The female full-marathon will start at 7:45am, the full-marathon and other races will start at 8:00am. Timing points will be set every 5km and the marathon will close after 6 hours.
The Xiamen International Marathon has been deemed an IAAF Gold Label Road Race for seven consecutive years. Many world famous marathon events including Boston, New York, Berlin, Chicago, and London Marathons have only one event, the full-marathon.
The Beijing International Marathon which was held recently has already cancelled the 5km and 10km marathons. According to Xiamen International Marathon committee, the event will also develop in a direction that makes more accurate distinctions between the participators in order to further promote the professionalization of the event and to enhance the core competitiveness so that its international influence will be enhanced.
