50 taxis modeled after London's iconic black cabs which will be used exclusively for tele-call service are ready to pick up passengers in Xiamen as the first batch of new taxis on November 16th.
By the end of this year there will be 200 new taxis in the city, and among them are 140 gold-painted TX4 taxis, all equipped with free Wi-Fi access. Yesterday, 50 new taxis were registered and they will be put into service at the Fanghu Bus Terminal this Sunday.
The Geely’s China-made TX4 taxi is the same model as the famous black cabs of the British capital.
The 50 new taxis will be available via telephone call or mobile phone software. They will have an appearance distinctly different from the normal taxis and won’t answer passengers that try to flag them down from the roadside. Customers are able to use the service by calling 968890, or make the reservation through mobile phone apps.
According to reports, the new taxi will have larger interior space than the normal taxis in Xiamen. Apart from the driving room, there will be 3 fixed seats and 1 rotatable & foldable seat.
In addition, acoustic panels will also be set up in the taxis. Passengers can then communicate with the taxi driver through a speakerphone. A taximeter, air cleaners, 4 surveillance cameras, and navigating instruments will also be installed, and as mentioned free Wi-Fi service will also be available in the cars.
