
During the Ocean Open Day held at Xiamen University on November 2nd, the University had a booth to introduce the marine research ship to the public. According to the introduction, the 3,000-ton marine research ship, which is being built by Xiamen University, is expected to be launched in October 2015 and to be completed in April 2016.
With a total length of 77.7 meters, the marine research ship has a waterline of 75.2 meters, a molded breadth of 16.24 meters, a molded depth of 8 meters, a designed draught of 5 meters, a designed displacement of 3,432 tons, a top speed of 14 knots, an endurance of 10,000 nautical miles, and a self-supplying capacity of 40 days. There will be 54 fixed members on the ship, including 18 crew and 36 scientists. The area of the working deck will cover 432 square meters, and the area of the lab will cover 375 square meters.
The ship will be named, “The Jiageng”, and will be built with the most advanced technologies. It is expected to be one of the major marine research ships in China.
