Xiamen has developed a kite festival tradition with its advantages of steady winds and spacious beaches for kite watchers to enjoy the visual feast in the sky. This year, the festival attendees will witness wonderful stunt shows from different kinds of kites brought by professional kite performers from home and abroad.
According to reports, the kite festival will be held from November 8th to 9th on Guanyinshan Dream Coast Golden Beach.
Three different sizes of soft kites, which depend on the force of the wind instead of a rigid frame to give the kite its shape, will be used to dazzle the Xiamen sky during the kite festival. The three-dimensional kites will take the shape of an octopus, a frog and characters from ancient Chinese stories. They will fly high in Xiamen’s sky under the control of professional kite performers from Weifang, the birthplace of kites.
Ms. Xie Leilei, the responsible person of the kite performance team from Weifang, said their team has performed in kite festivals in many countries including the United Kingdom, Germany and Nepal.
A kite performance team from Shanghai will be performing in Xiamen for the first time at the festival, and their team leader said they will give a wonderful stunt show with 6 sport kites and a giant “Gun Di Long” kite. The “Gun Di Long” kite can roll on the ground and have better interactivity with visitors.
