Oscar Carvallo, a French fashion designer, attended a fashion salon in Xiamen, Fujian province on Aug 4, to share his experiences and communicate with local designers.

Oscar was a student of Guy Meliet—one of the most famous fashion designers in France. Oscar’s distinctive designs often give people a pleasant surprise, making him the focus of public attention in Paris fashion week. Lady Gaga once wore a dress designed by him.

His designs break traditional rules and blend in elements of life, nature, art and animals. Sea, plants and people in Xiamen have given him new inspiration to use tropical elements in his next designs.

Oscar used many Chinese elements in his design even though he had never been to China. Last year, he added the pattern of a Chinese white crane to French Lyon silk. He also showed his preference for Chinese models. He said the color of Chinese girls’ skin is as pure as porcelain.

Oscar likes the plants, sea and people of Xiamen. Phoenix flowers, ubiquitous in Xiamen, make him feel warm, because his home has planted the same flowers. Living beside the sea is an ideal lifestyle for him.

According to Oscar, Xiamen has the potential to be an international fashion design center. He wished to come back to show his new designs, and he said his style fits Chinese females well.
