Houcun education foundation, located at Xiang'an district in the city of Xiamen, Fujian province, held an award ceremony at the Houcun Plaza on Aug 16.

More than 100 local students and teachers received awards in recognition of their efforts. An arts performance by local villagers and students was held at the ceremony.
Houcun has become a home for talented students in Xiang'an and even in Xiamen. The education foundation named by it is one of the first non-governmental education foundations in Xiang'an. It has been running for 13 years and mainly helps local primary school teachers and excellent students.

Five masters degree candidates, 31 college candidates and more than 60 junior and primary school students have received financial aid from 200 yuan to 3,000 yuan each. Among them, Guo Yinuo got admitted to the University of Chicago; Guo Yifan, was accepted by the Australian National University; Guo Xinjie, was admitted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. There was a sea of applause when the winners received their grants.

To date, the education foundation has dealt out more than 700,000 yuan to more than 1,000 students and teachers. More than 680 students in Houcun got accepted in college since the establishment of the foundation, including two who got into Tsinghua University, 11 who studied abroad, or in Hong Kong and Macao. A total of 28 students got master's degrees and also a PhD.
