It’s an annual tradition for Xiamen University to celebrate its establishment on April 6th of 1921, and the school sees active participation from its alumni every year.
On its 94th anniversary, three highlights were featured this year, with the establishment of the College of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Xiamen University; a memorial exhibition of Mr. Wang Deyao, former Xiamen University principal; and an award ceremony for the Nan Qiang Award, the highest award of Xiamen University with a prize of 200,000 yuan to the winner.
The new college was set up in the Xiang’an campus of the Xiamen University with the departments of electromechanical engineering, aeronautics and automation.
The first anniversary of the university was marked on April 6th in 1921, the Qingming Festival or Tomb-sweeping Day, which is said to be the equal of Thanksgiving Day for Americans, by Mr. Zhu Chongshi, principal of the university.
Mr. Tan Kah Kee, founder of the university, chose to celebrate the establishment on Qingming Festival, aiming to raise the graduates’ gratitude toward their Alma Mater, ancestors, parents and friends, Mr. Zhu added.
It’s a pride and treasure of the university, as it received a large sum of donations from its alumni because of their generosity and love, said Mr. Zhu.
