Updated: 24 Nov 2014

Xiamen was awarded as one of China's top 10 low-carbon cities in 2014, according to reports.

The other cities on the top 10 list are: Hefei, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Beijing, Fuzhou, Qingdao, Dalian and Jinan.

Xiamen has taken the lead in building a low-carbon city and exploring the low carbon development model in China. An "Overall Planning of Building a Low-carbon City" was worked out in 2010, which focuses on three major areas including transportation, construction and production fields to control and reduce the level of carbon emissions in the city.
