On March 3, 2012, Xiamen Haicang International Cross Country Championships was held in the Haicang Tian-Zhu-Shan forest park. About 400 teachers and students in Xiamen University attended this competition. Overseas Education College (OEC) sent 50 overseas students and teachers to participate 10 kilometers cross country, which was a sport event of this competition.
During three hours cross country hiking, our college's overseas students attracted people's attention. Many people and middle school students ran to greeting, talking and taking group photos with them. The overseas students also immersed this kind and friendly atmosphere, enjoyed the whole competition joyfully.
This competition had attracted over 10,000 athletes came from 18 countries and areas. Xiamen University School of Economics, School of Management, College of Humanities, Overseas Education College, including 8 institutes totally 500 students participated in the competition. Xiamen University became the largest number of entries units. Associate professor Huang Lisheng, the populace athletics office director of Sports Department in Xiamen University, as athlete representative took an oath at the opening ceremony.
Xiamen Haicang International Cross Country Championships’ sponsors are Xiamen Haicang Taiwanese Investment Zone Management Committee, Xiamen Haicang District people's government, Xiamen CCRE Group, Xiamen Daily, Xiamen Broadcasting and TV Group and Xiamen University. The sport events include five categories, 60, 30and10 kilometers individual group, and 30, 10 kilometer association group.
The whole track is 60 kilometers long, across the entire Tian-Zhu-Shan forest park from west to east, throughout famous scenic spots, such as Baizhu Garden, Tianzhu Lake, Zhenji temple, Haoyue Lake and Liang’er Lake. It is the most beautiful cross country track in China.
Beginning from this year, the Xiamen Haicang International Cross Country Championships will be held every year. It will be another famous sport event in Xiamen, such as the Xiamen International Marathon and the Xiangyu Xiamen Xiang'an International 100-Kilometer Hiking Competition.
