The sixth "Study in China " Exhibition was respectively held in Osaka, November 23 and Tokyo, November 26. Twenty-one famous universities including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University, Nankai University and Xiamen University etc.from China participated in this exhibition. During the exhibition, activities including a lecture of general knowledge for studying in China, a simulant class of Chinese language, and the career prospective analysis for Chinese language talents were held which attracted a lot of attendants.
This exhibition was organized by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, and undertaken by the Sino-Japanese Cultural Exchange Center. In recent years, more and more Japanese students come to China. The number of short-term language students comes down relatively, while that of long-term students for degree study increases dramatically which has reflected a fact that Chinese higher education has been gradually recognized by the international. Since the Chinese reform and opening to the outside world in 1980s, there have been 870,000 foreign students in total come to China. Over 140,000 international students from 179 countries come to China in 2005; the number increases 27.28% comparing with 2004. Among them 18,874 students come from Japan which ranks the second among all foreign students in China. Meanwhile, over 120,000 international students come to Japan. Among them 80,000 students come from China, which ranks the first among all the foreign students in Japan.
Gu Fangzhao, the head of Students' Affairs Department and Wu Xiping, the secretary of Admissions Office on behalf of the University participated in the exhibition. The local medium made interviews and reports about the exhibition, which also drew overseas Chinese community's great attention. Since 1980s, Xiamen University has accepted more than 2,000 Japanese students of all kinds. Currently there are 94 Japanese students studying in the University. The delegation also paid a visit to two famous universities in Japan, Doshisha University and Waseda University.
During the exhibition, Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange ( CSCSE ) and Friendly Association of Overseas Chinese in Japan held one recruiting meeting aiming at attracting high-level talents to return back and develop their own careers in China. In the near further, Xiamen university shall actively build-up more cooperative relations with first class universities in Tokyo, Osaka areas which would improve the University's influences in Japan.
