On December 17, Chen Zhiwei, Dean of Chinese International Education College/Overseas Education College (CIEC/OEC), Wu Di, Deputy Chair of the College Council and Pan Chaoqing, Deputy Dean, visited the Home for Oversea Professionals (HOP) and Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS). The purpose of the visit was to offer teaching and relevant service to these two units to build an internship base for international students and explore new ways of educating students.
The three-person delegation from CIEC/OEC, accompanied by Chen Jianbin, Chairman of Xiamen Software Development Investment Co., Ltd, and Chen Jianyang, an officer of Exit-entry Administration Bureau of Xiamen Public Security Bureau, first paid a visit to HOP and discussed how to conduct multi-level cooperation and resources sharing on the use of talents, internship and entrepreneurship for students, to make XMU’s contribution to the development of HOP. HOP has been known to evolve into a hub for exchange, collaboration and resource sharing for overseas professionals and a window for publicizing local cultures, industries and policies on investment and talents.

The CIEC/OEC delegation then, accompanied by the Principal of MXIS Li Xiumian, visited MXIS, and held a meeting with its leaders, to get to know more about the school’s history, present enrollment scale and students’ activities. During the meeting, Chen Zhiwei gave a brief introduction to the CIEC/OEC, and expressed her wish to carry out some exchange and cooperation with MXIS on teaching internships and student activities. Principal Li Xiumian agreed and pointed out that OEC had sent students to teach lessons at their primary school in MXIS in the past, which was highly appreciated. He hoped that in the future XMU would not only provide Chinese teachers but also help MXIS create a curriculum of cultural experience. Wu Di and Pan Chaoqing had a discussion with officials in charge of student management and education in MXIS on the issues like internships, and a consensus was also reached on the arrangement for the next enrollment event and “Mandarin Day” activity. It was also agreed that some outstanding graduates from MXIS would be selected for further education at XMU on annual basis and both sides expressed willingness to strengthen their collaboration in the future.

CIEC/OEC has long been laying great emphasis on the education of international students and is committed to the concept of nurturing talents through culture. Constant efforts have been made to explore and establish a new mode of education and teaching in various forms. In the future, CIEC/OEC will continue its efforts to coordinate with other schools or institutes on resource sharing, seek new ways of educating international students, and build more practice bases for international students so as to embrace a new era of Chinese international education.
