In the scorching July, the closing ceremony of the Overseas Education College’s short-term program with Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus was held on the morning of July 5 in Room A401 in Kunluan Building. Present at the ceremony were Professor Guo Jianhua, Vice Dean of the Chinese Language Department, Associate Professor Zhang Jiangzhi, Assistant Professor Hong Bin, Ding Luyan of Admission Office, Kesinee, Assistant Professor from the Faculty of International Studies of Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, Ms. Namfon and thirty-one students from Prince of Songkla University.
Vice Dean Guo Jianhua addressed all the attendees on behalf of the Overseas Education College (OEC) first. She extended a cordial welcome to Assistant Professor Ms. Namfon, teacher representative in this short-term program and Ms. Kesinee and sincerely congratulated the thirty-one aspiring students of Prince of Songkla University on their successful completion of the courses. She hoped the students from Songkla could continuously learn Chinese, follow up with China’s development and help to popularize Chinese language as well as promote Chinese culture and make contributions to the closer cultural exchanges between China and Thailand.
Ms. Kesinee expressed her sincere gratitude to OEC for its efforts in the cooperation between the two parties and for its attentive services. She also expressed her wishes for a deeper and wider cooperation between the Overseas Education College of XMU and Prince of Songkla University.
Assistant Professor Hong Bin showed students the teaching report of this short-term program he prepared. The report recorded the presentations of economic news, group discussions, flip classes and middle-term and final examinations of students in the course China’s Geography and Economy by means of abundant pictures and words. Hong Bin thanked the students from Songkla for this valuable teaching experience and wished all the students a bright future.
Associate Professor Zhang Jiangzhi said it was the second time for him to teach Business Chinese Writing in this short-term program with Prince of Songkla University. He said he engaged with the students from Songkla more deeply this time. Meanwhile, he offered the students some advice on the learning of business Chinese writing and Chinese learning, which was that they shall focus more on the language itself and less on the benefits it could bring while learning Chinese.
Pan Decheng, a student representative, said they spent a wonderful two-month period on Xiang’an Campus of XMU, when they not only made a great number of both Chinese and foreign friends but also acquired so much knowledge with the patient help from teachers. He expressed their sincere gratitude to XMU and wished to come back to Xiamen and XMU if they have the chance.
Zhang Lishu, also a student representative, said: “During our stay in Xiamen, we not only acquired knowledge and friendship but also visited lots of places of interest in Southern Fujian area, which allowed us to experience local culture and customs. We felt that time just flew by and we had a happy life here. We definitely want to come back to Xiamen.”
After speeches, three teachers from the Chinese Language Department presented the Certificate of Completion to students from Songkla.
At the end of the ceremony, all the faculties and students took pictures at the entrance of the college building, marking the successful completion of this shot-term program.
The Overseas Education College of XMU started to cooperate with Prince of Songkla University in 2008. OEC hopes that, through strengthening the exchange and cooperation with Prince of Songkla University, it could build a window for Sino-Thailand cultural exchanges, so as to promote Chinese language and China’s splendid culture on a global scale, deepen the efforts to promote the cultural exchanges and talent cultivation in response to the Belt and Road Initiative, and thereby boost the relationship between China and Thailand.
