On Sept. 8, the delegation led by Y.B. Dato' Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Minister of the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry II, and Datuk Ter Leong Yap, President of The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) was warmly received by Zhu Chongshi, President of XMU, at Meeting Room 215 of the Songen Building. Also attending the meeting were Ye Shiman, vice-President of XMU, Zhang Jianlin, Assistant to the President, Wang Ruifang, President-elect of XMU Malaysia and Dean of Tan Kah Kee College as well as some other guests.

On behalf of XMU, Zhu Chongshi expressed his gratitude to Ong Ka Chuan, Ter Leong Yap and other friends from Malaysiafor their strong support and invaluable assistance in the construction of the Malaysian campus. He also briefed the guests on the current status of the university and some important plans in the future. He pointed out that XMU has always taken internationalization as a core strategy and path for the development of the university. XMU Malaysia carries high expectation of a lot of people and it will create a highly-efficient bridge betweenChinaand Southeast Asian countries so as to facilitate friendly exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade, science and technology, education and culture of both sides and jointly usher in the new era of the development of “One Belt and One Road”. With the assistance and support of friends inMalaysia, the construction of the Malaysian campus has been underway smoothly. In the future, XMU will continue to work with related government departments from both countries to build the Malaysian branch into a prestigious university with extensive influence inAsiaand even throughout the whole world. President Zhu also said that it is his sincere hope that the officials would visit the Malaysian campus more often and give XMU more support and help in its construction.
Ong Ka Chuan said that economic and trade cooperation is inseparable from educational and cultural cooperation and the training of high-quality talent. The construction of XMU Malaysia is an important event in the exchange betweenMalaysiaandChinaand its development will definitely provide excellent educational resources and cultivate large numbers of high-quality talent. The Malaysian government will provide full support for the construction of the campus and would like to see all parties concerned increase communication and interaction to promote the construction of the Malaysian campus.
