上午好！今天，我们在这里举行海外教育学院2018年春季开学典礼。

Good morning! Today we are glad to hold the opening ceremony of the 2018 spring semester of Overseas Education College.

孔子说：有朋自远方来，不亦乐乎？

As is said by Confucius, how happy we will be if friends come from far away!

这学期，有104名新同学来到海外教育学院学习，共来自全球25个国家和地区。我谨代表厦门大学海外教育学院，对来自世界各地的新同学们表示最热烈的欢迎！恭喜你们成为一名厦大人！

This semester, there are 104 new students coming to OEC from 25 countries and regions. On behalf of Overseas Education College of Xiamen University, here I extend my warmest welcome to new students from all over the world. Congratulations on being a part of Xiamen University.

中国的历史悠久，文化博大精深。中国人民勤劳友好，中国的发展日新月异。你们到这里来学习正是时候。

China has a long history with extensive and profound culture, and its people are industrious and friendly. China is advancing rapidly. It is just the right time for you to study here.

厦门大学是最优美的中国大学校园，你们非常聪明选择厦门大学来学习并且非常幸运的被厦门大学录取。

Xiamen University is widely regarded as the most beautiful university in China. You guys are so smart to choose Xiamen University and so lucky to be admitted.

2018年是中国的狗年，祝大家狗年大旺。今天也正好是中国的传统节日元宵节。值此佳节，也祝各位老师、各位同学元宵快乐，事事圆满！

2018 is the Year of the Dog in China. May the joy of New Year be with you throughout the year! Today is the Lantern festival in China. Here, I wish you a happy, healthy and fruitful year.

下面我简要地向大家介绍厦门大学和海外教育学院的情况：

I will briefly give you some background knowledge about Xiamen University and Overseas Education College.

厦门大学由著名爱国华侨领袖陈嘉庚先生于1921年创办，是中国近代教育史上第一所华侨创办的大学，是中国高水平大学之一。

Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese, founded Xiamen University in 1921. It is the first university in modern Chinese history to be founded by Overseas Chinese. It is also one of thebest universities in the nation.

学校设有研究生院、6个学部以及28个学院（含76个系）和14个研究院，目前专任教师2718人，其中，教授、副教授1826人, 现有在校生40000余人，其中包含外国学历留学生1196人。

Xiamen University has 28 schools containing 76 departments and 14 research institutes, with 2,718 full-time faculty and professional researchers, including 1,826 professors and associate professors. The university now has a total enrolment of over 40,000 full-time students oncampus, including 1,196 overseas degree students.

学校对外交流与合作深入开展，已与境外300多所高校签署了校际合作协议，与47所世界排名前200名的高校开展实质性交流合作。学校积极参与汉语国际推广工作，已与北美洲、欧洲、亚洲、非洲等地区的大学合作建立了16所孔子学院，并获批建设“孔子学院院长学院”。

The university has profound international communication and cooperation. It has established partnerships with more than 300 universities overseas and has carried out substantive cooperation with 47 top 200 universities in the world. It has established 16 Confucius Institutes in collaboration with local universities in 13 countries. Meanwhile, the Academic of Confucius Institute Directors is also located on Xiang’an campus.

学校占地超过9000亩，包括思明校区、翔安校区、漳州校区和马来西亚分校。我们所在的是翔安校区。

The university covers a total area of more than 600 hectares, including Siming campus, Xiang’an campus, Zhangzhou campus and the newest Campus in Malaysia. We are now on Xiang’an campus.

海外教育学院创建于1956年，是中国大陆最早面向海外学生开展教育的机构之一。

Founded in 1956, Overseas Education College is one of the earliest institutes offering Chinese language education programs for overseas students.

现有中外学生近两千人，包括长短期汉语进修生、汉语言专业本科生、汉语硕士生等。

Now we offer non-degree Chinese language programs, BA,and MA programs in Chinese language education. We now have nearly 2,000 students including foreign students from all over the world and Chinese students from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau in our college.

学院现有40多位教学经验丰富的教师和20多位管理人员，他们大都具有多个国家的教学或者学习经历, 他们会给你们提供最好的教学和服务。

OEC has over 40 experienced teachers and more than 20 administrative staff. Most of them used to teach or study abroad. They will provide you teaching and service of the best quality.

在学习开始之际，我有以下几点希望与各位同学共勉：

Here at the beginning of your study, I would like to share a few pieces of advice with you:

第一，希望同学们开放自己，主动地和周围的教师和同学结成朋友，加强交流，尽快适应校园生活。

First, you should adapt to the new environment and life as soon as possible. Improve yourself during communication with your teachers and classmates. Take part in more student activities after class.

第二，希望同学们努力学好语言，充分利用校区图书馆、运动场、游泳馆、咖啡厅等各种资源，积极参与校区的各类文化交流活动，加深对中国文化的了解，做好文化交流的使者，共同创造一个真正的国际化校园。

Second, make full use of the facilities on campus, such as library, sports fields, swimming pool, café, etc, which will be helpful for your study. Take part in different kinds of cultural activities on campus, know more about Chinese culture and become student ambassadors for cultural exchanges，which promotes the internationalization of campus.

第三，希望大家珍惜在中国学习的机会，掌握知识和技能，将来能为中外合作交流、“一带一路”合作和构建全球人类命运共同体贡献一份力量。

Third, I hope that you can cherish the opportunity to master knowledge and skills and make contributions to the constructions of international exchange, “The Belt and Road” and the community of shared future for mankind.

最后，希望大家了解并遵守中国法律和学校规章制度，学习期间注意人身、财产安全。

The last, but not the least, all students should abideby Chinese laws and school regulations and pay attention to your personal andproperty safety although China is one of the safest countries in the world.
