Confucius Institute Scholarships


Scholarship for Chinese Language Learning and MTSCOL (Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages)

(1) Eligibility:

The Scholarship Scheme is provided to foreign students who have a high school diploma or higher and would like to study Chinese inChinaor study in the programme of BTCSOL(Bachelor of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) and MTCSOL (Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages).

Outstanding students from Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) worldwide; Foreign teachers who are teaching or planning to teach Chinese as a second language; Students who received distinguished grades in the Chinese testes held by the Confucius Institute Headquarters; Outstanding contestants in “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions; Students studying Chinese in overseas universities or colleges; Applicants who meet the requirements of other Confucius Institute Headquarters' agreements.

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health and shall be under 35 (Chinese language teachers shall be aged below 45).

(2) Application Procedure:

Applicants shall first be enrolled into Chinese Language Study (non-degree programme) or BTCSOL(Bachelor's programme) or MTCSOL (Master's programme) byXiamenUniversity.

Online Application and Submission of documents:

Applicants are required to make online application at   http://cis.chinese.cn   (Agency No. of Xiamen University at CIS: 10384) and download and print the Application Form for Confucius Institute Scholarship and then sign the form.

Send by post to the recommending institutes by the indicated deadline the application form and other required application documents.


The recommending institutes will send the qualified applications to XMU Admissions Office for further selection and the university will submit a list of scholarship nominees to the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban for final approval in early June.

Confucius China Study Plan


“ConfuciusChinaStudy Plan” –Fellowships for PhD Programme

The Plan consists of six subprograms, including the “Sino-foreign Joint PhD Subprogram”, “PhD in China Subprogram”, “Young Leaders Subprogram”, “International Conference Subprogram”, etc. The majority of financial support is provided through support of specific research and other projects on designated academic areas of Humanities and Social Sciences. The financial support includes: subsidies for living expenses and accommodation costs, research funds (reimbursed for actual costs); international round-trip airfare, tuition and other training expenses charged by the Chinese university, subsidies for health and accident insurance in China, subsidies for group activities and culture experience events, expenditures for conducting research in China by overseas supervisors of the students participating in the Sino-foreign Joint PhD subprogram.

(1) Eligibility:

Sino-foreign Joint PhD programCurrent PhD students from foreign universities to pursue studies, conduct research and write a PhD dissertation inChina. Applicants should have a Chinese proficiency certificate of new HSK Band 3.

PhD in China programForeign students to pursue a PhD degree inChina. Applicants should have a Chinese proficiency certificate of new HSK Band 5 or above.

Eligible candidates should be under the age of forty years old.

(2) Application Procedure:

Applicants are required to log on to http://ccsp.chinese.cn/index.html to fill in the Application Form and upload the required documents.XiamenUniversityshould be chosen as the host university.

After the online application, a complete set of all required application documents should be mailed to both Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Admission Office of Xiamen University.
